Was there a movie, television show, music that you absolutely HATED as a child but now as an adult have a healthy appreciation for?
For me, that's an easy one. As a kid I loathed M.A.S.H....hated it passionately. Whenever the first chords of 'Suicide is Painless' came on over the television speakers my parents would tune in and I would run the other way.
Seriously. Could. NOT. Stand. It!
I really had no idea what frisky meant at the time, but I'm pretty sure Hawkeye was just that. Frank Burns gave me the Willies and Hoolihan's hair needed to be more like Farrah Fawcett's. It was dreadfully boring and all about war. How depressing.
HOWEVER, Just like Star Trek, Stargate (and any other t.v. series with the word 'Star' in it) I was unable to purge that influence upon matrimony so I've had to suffer (patiently) through re-run after re-run.
Tonight, I realized something. I can never be sure when the change occurred but somehow, it has.
In my opinion M.A.S.H. was one of the most brilliant shows in the history of American television.
Hawkeye is one of the most lovable yet tortured protagonists I've ever seen. Plus, if I ever ran into Alan Alda, I'd give him a big hug and then discuss his need to change his stance on chiropractic care. Then, of course I'd hug him again.
Major Burns is STILL slimy.
Hoolihan's hair isn't so bad.
And thanks to He-man's willingness to demonstrate, I understand perfectly what 'frisky' means.
We unwound from a CRAZY day today with a classic episode and laughed the entire way through. Which makes me wonder...
What was your Loathing to Loving Thing? Or Loving to Loathing Thing?
He-Man, his loin cloth and leopard, tiger, mangy feline...whatever it was?
Patrick Stewart as Picard in all of his under-appreciated awesomeness?
Teddy Rupskin? (If ever there was a doll that would come alive and kill you while you're sleeping...)
In other news, here are the winners of my September Blog Candy...Congratulations! I'm so excited to share my story with you and get your feedback. I'll be contacting you soon for mailing details...

My little brother owns the whole series of M.A.S.H. on DVD and we watch it literally every time I go visit him and my Dad. I hated it as a child too, but I must say that I enjoy watching it now. But my kids groan.
ps, how do they know Suicide is Painless?!
I don't really have a Loathing to Loving, I have the opposite. As a kid, I loved to watch sitcoms - in particular Punky Brewster and Full House. Now as an adult, I have seen parts of reruns of these shows, and I have a serious new respect for my parents and the pain they went through every day having to listen to these shows while we kids watched them! They are soooooo terrible and cheesy and painful and annoying!! Sorry, Mom and Dad.
I WON!!! I WON!!!
I'm not sure what would be loathing to loving in my case, either, except to agree with Erin and say that now I can't stand Full House or Sesame Street.
My kids and I started watching Dennis the Menace on Netflix the other day, and we all love them! How funny! I didn't even watch them as a kid, but I sure like them now.
Loathe to Love? It has to be all sorts of foods for me...I am just starting to like jam on pb &j, cottage cheese, and bananas. Kind of silly to admit...but I was a very picky eater as a kid. Luckily I got married so I could try some of things my husband likes and open my mind a bit. =)
