This morning at church, our ward received a pretty big surprise.
(For those of you who aren't familiar with us Mormons, a 'ward' is a local congregation determined by geographical location.) We knew it was coming but I'm pretty sure not so many of us expected how the ward would change.
Essentially, it was pretty much almost sliced in half and the other half (those who didn't remain) were combined with a portion of another ward to create a new one.
It took my breath away to look at the sea of beautiful faces I've grown accustomed to seeing every week and realize I won't get to see them as often.
(sad sigh)
Change is hard.
BUT it can allow for great growth and happiness to occur.
I know it can.
We get to keep our friends from the new ward and strengthen friendships with the people we get to rebuild with.
In the meantime, I'm a little bit nervous about living next door to the bishop.
Happy Sabbath Everyone!

This very thing happened to us in January. Not only did our half of the ward get split off and added to another ward, we ended up in a different stake. We don't even see our friends from the old ward, either, because they go to a different building now, though we stayed in the same one. It HAS been a great blessing, though, and I am grateful for the change. It helped that my very best friend in this area was in the new ward, and that our half of the old ward was so desperately needed in the new one. Case in point... I'm now the YW President! They must have REALLY been desperate. ;)
As our former Relief Society President once told me, "If you're not uncomfortable, you're not growing"
I'm having to remind myself of that often today ♥
We just had our ward combine with the nearby one and then split them in two... except we were one of the few who were separated from our old ward and put in the other one! We felt alittle displaced! But 2 sundays have gone by and we LOVE this new ward, these new people... So I know how you feel, and we are excited about the change... I think we've had so much of it within the last 9 years that we expect it, embrace it, and learn from it :)
Our ward was split this January. One of the wards in the stake was dissolved and they shifted the boundaries to even things out. The ward we are in now was really small before the split. I'm grateful that so many of the families we knew from our old ward are also in our new ward. Change is hard. But like you said, opportunities for growth! And resolve to maintain those precious friendships you've already made and do things outside of the normal ward things you would have to fall back on. I'm so glad to have my testimony and know that things like this are inspired. I can already see changes in our new ward from the influx of so many strong members.
