Person: "Oh, you're going on vacation this summer? That's great! Where?"
Me: "Arizona, more specifically, on the border of New Mexico and Mexico."
Person: "oh. (pause) Why?"
Me: "Because that's how we roll."
I guess to the normal person, a person who likes not melting, going to Arizona in July would seem a bit insane...and well, it probably is.
He-Man's family is from there and has a ginormous family reunion every year. We've been trying to make it for over a decade and it turned out this was the year all but two people in our immediate family were able to go.
And since my parents have been living in Southern Arizona, we decided to fly a week early to visit them....
That is until they up and moved to Germany. In a million years, we didn't see that one coming.
BUT, it all worked amazingly well because the back yard of our vacation rental looked like this:
Another great feature is that the girls got to hang out with their cousins- something they've been wanting to do since we moved to Florida.
The only trouble with where we stayed was that we had to pause long enough to sleep. Needless to say, the girls played so hard, they practically passed out when their sweet little heads hit the pillow...
During our time in Phoenix, we were able to enjoy the sights, visit with lovely, beloved friends (shout out to the BAERS, CUENES and MANGOLDS!) And as an added bonus, I even got to shave my legs and buy makeup before heading for the hills for some good ol' fashion camping!
As we gave Phoenix a good hearty farewell, it was easy to understand why so many people fall in love with that place. Seriously, when you have sunsets like this...
Who wouldn't?!
