Ahhhhh, Serenity...

When we moved into this house, we acquired an ENORMOUS living room. This isn't a bad thing considering I love to entertain and have parties as often as possible.

The trouble has been furnishing said room since the budget for home decor of grad-students (and barely post grad students) is usually slim to none. I can attest to the fact that God loves us and often blesses us with seemingly small, insignificant things that can really make our lives happier.

Exhibit A: Our couch modeled here by my brother in law (Yep, single ladies, he's available). Before my lovely Oregonian friend, Stacey, we had a couch that personifies (if a couch can actually do that) heinousness. This springs sprung every time someone would sit upon it. I'm convinced there had to be a colony of fleas in it, ready to infiltrate our apartment. I remembered my couch plight one night when I was praying and thought, 'Hmmmm, it doesn't hurt to ask..."

My friend's husband delivered furniture for Pier One and this one had a small tear when delivered so the customers returned it. It was going to be thrown away so Stacey asked if we wanted it. I paid $50 for it brand new! Since we were moving to Utah, I covered it and saved it for after we got the house.

The first time I snuggled on it with a chenille blanket, it was the day before New Year's Eve. The Christmas lights were on and it was snowing. The couch was so soft and comfy. He-Man was still in Oregon so I didn't even noticed falling asleep until morning.

Being that our living room is enormous, it looked empty with just 1 place to sit upon and 2 little tea tables. So for the following 2 years, I have been slowly tucking away money to pay for furnishing this room. 2 weeks ago, I reached living room zen (I just can't find another way to describe it). We finished by purchasing 2 beautiful chairs from local classifieds...I still worry that I paid way too little for them.

So now, our living room is still huge, but whenever I sit in it, I can't help saying, "Ahhhhh".

Although, just out of curiosity, does it look too much like a funeral home reception center? Nothing against funeral homes or anything. That's just not the looking I was aiming for.

I buy everything on craigslist. The free stuff section is amazing sometimes.

Nah, funeral homes don't generally have piles of pillows on the floor. :)

I love your furniture, though I hope it doesn't get too roughed up by small children. Our white couch didn't last too long when it was the only couch in our house of three boys. :)
