Halloween Candy...

There are many, many aspects of Halloween that are so fun! The holiday is even more enjoyable now that I am a Mummy....(hahahaha! I'm so punny this morning!) I love the fun of dressing up...not in gory costumes, but fun, happy and cute costumes. It's also a bonus when sparkles, sequins, or rhinestones are involved.

What I don't like is that I can almost see the cavities developing on my kidlets' teeth and that awful, sluggishness I feel after I obviously munch on too much candy. I read a chart today that I thought was interesting and thought I would share:

(I'm still trying to figure out how to add links)

Halloween dinner is something I spend a lot of time pondering about because I want to give my family at least a little nutrition before the international tradition of 'Gorge Yourself With Candy Night' begins. So this is what I have decided to feed my family:

Grilled Garlic Chicken with Sesame, Stir-fry Veggies and Quinoa (since it's really high in protein). NO DESSERT! Honey, since you might read this blog before we chat again, how does that sound?

Doh! I got 3 of the "Worst" ones: Snickers, Milky Way and Kit Kat. But I also got Dum-dums, which have no fat and very few calories. That's good(er) right? Of course, that doesn't help the cavity conundrum any...

Dinner sounds great. I'll show you how to add a link. Just as a side note, As far as I know the 'Gorge Yourself With Candy Night' isn't an international tradition. I think it's mainly just us. The British and the German kids see the American TV shows and have tried to make it a reality for them, but most people still don't get it when kids show up at their door and say trick or treat. If successful in England the kids usually get money instead of candy because no one bought candy to hand out. There may be other nations that do it, but I'll have to look it up.

we recently had a primary halloween party here in Brazil. one of the American women asked a Brazilian woman to help decorate for the party. the Brazilian said--"i don't know how, i'm not American." and, recently the headmaster of the American school here (of which 60% of its studentbody is Brazilian) told rachel and me that they are having Halloween on Friday, and that several newspapers will be around to "catch a bit of Americana."
so my point is, Brazil isn't used to halloween, either.
trish, yummy dinner!

Hmm, Halloween dinner in the Birrell household will be beef stew and cornbread. It would fit better if it was freezing outside, but today has hovered in the high 60s. Oh well.

I'm seriously curtailing the sticky candy eating this year since Matt and Ben went to the dentist two days ago and got fillings. Matt even had to get a cap. NO sticky candy for them. For me... well, that's a different story. :)
